- Exploration Geological surveying and interpretation
- Modelling and evaluation of mineral deposits
Fabric and structure of rock layers are explored through drill bores.A new technology enables drill holes to be deviated in any desired direction. Deviation technique allows additional valuable insights into the structure of a rock layer system. Further, a number of bore holes can be drilled from a single location or drill pad, respectively.Interpretation of exploration drillings is automated by computer and displayed in cross section plots. For modelling a mineral deposit, analyses of drilling results are supported by exploration well plans produced through a computer graphic system.
- Mine planning (opencast and underground mining)
- Mine design and extraction planning
Mineral deposits are modelled from geological and geophysical surveys. Within the context of mineral deposits management, mine design and extraction planning represent the basis for technical mine infrastructure. Via database analyses in GIS, thematic plans are produced within a further processing step as basis for mine planning, e. g. for quality control during the planning stage.
At opencast mines, minerals are worked very close to the ground surface. In Austria’s mountainous country, minerals and mine surveyors work in iron ore mining.
